Thats why Joey Jordinson got such a good rap even though the band around him couldn't hold their own. His Jazz drumming when he was younger made him pretty bloody good.

Yeah, theres actualy a good deal of mediocre bands who have at least one good musician as a member...Like Mudvayne (Ryan Martinie) and Creed (Mark Tremonti)...Sometimes a band can consist of nothing but technicaly gifted musicians and still suck ass...Toto, Journey, Asia, Mr Big, Most power metal bands, etc.

Well Simon Phillips is a AMAZING drummer, Steve Lukather is a excellent rhythm player...From a technical perspective, they are the sh*t.

From a non technical perspective, they are just sh*t, period.

Phillips has worked with a crapload of people hasn't he? I know his name from Judas Priest and he's been with Brian Eno and heaps others apparently.

Rosanna scarred me for life

You picked up on the word complex, but too bad you missed the word "fills."

I never said Carey didn't play complex rhythms, but good drumming (to me) is more than just about time signature changes. It's funny you say I'm not well educated because drums are probably my best instrument of all.

To put this into context, Space Prog impresses me, it floats my boat, I don't call the Rolling Stones overated because they don't do Space Prog. The Rolling Stones are rated highly because of OTHER attributes. Danny Carey may not impress you personally but he is far better overall then 99% of the other drummers in the world today.
ROFL. 99%? If I had no life, I'd list a billion drummers that are better than Carey in every aspect.
