you going to make any more assumptions about my tastes based on this comment? continue to ignore how i base my opinions on your boy morello so you can keep crapping on my character?
That is what makes Morrello different from the rest though. It is the effects and sound he gets on his guitar. Has nothing to do with what he sounds like on other equipment, its how he sounds on what he choses to play.

For starters watch this video to mark my point.

i'm well aware of the sounds he's capable of pulling out through his pedals (i use 9-13 pedals when i play i'm well aware of their potential). using the guitar as a controller for sounds created through the effect pedals is no different than using a MIDI keyboard hooked up to a synth. it just looks cooler to patch a guitar through pedals. if you hooked up his pedals to a keyboard with a scratch pad and a fader would anyone be able to tell the difference without seeing it?

how about someone explains to me how being reliant on something other than a guitar makes someone a great guitarist. can ANYONE in this thread do that?

I disagree that using anything other then the guitar can produce the types of sounds he is creating. It also takes talent to make the guitar create those specific sounds as just having pedals won't do you much good unless you know what you are doing with them. What makes Morello great for what he is capable of is the fact that he uses the guitar to create his own signature style that can be recognized instantly. Just like Jimi, Brian May, The Edge, Van Halen... they can all be recognized just by hearing a measure of their guitar work, same goes for Morello.

Exactly, if Morello was all pedals then that would mean anyone could find a good effects pedal and sound like Tom Morello.

But I have yet to hear a player who has done so.

Rage Against the machine is a great band ,but they might have unintentionally inspired crap bands like limp bizkit.

A big part of being a musician is creating sound. What Morello did was unheard of when it comes to guitar. He did things with the guitar that most people didn't even think to do, and he did it effectively. He wasn't necessarily good at playing technical pieces, but he was good at crafting songs via unconventional means using his guitar. It may have not been technical in the sense of actual playing, but it was innovative.

I don't even like RATM and I am capable of recognizing this.
