Default The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal

I figured this might be of some interest to some people on here.

OK so you know about the NWOBHM , you like Iron Maiden & Judas Priest. I know there are people who like Venom , Saxon & Diamond Head that also come here , but how many of the other bands from the time are you aware of?

Digging out some of my obscure stuff for my Britpop thread I came across a compilation album compiled by Metallica`s Lars Ulrich & Kerrang editor of the time Geoff Barton celebrating the 10th anniversary of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.
The album came out around the end of 1990 and some of the stuff on it was so rare that a few of the tracks were remastered from Lars & Geoffs own records because the master tapes had long sinced vanished.

Aside from the obvious bands there are a few bands featuring people who would find success later on in other bands. Samson are on there , Bruce Dickinsons old band , as are Sweet Savage , a band put together by future Dio & Def Leppard guitarist Viv Campbell. Tygers Of Pan Tang featured John Sykes who later joined Thin Lizzy & Whitesnake. Finally there`s Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers old band White Spirit.

Anyway the full track listing is.....

CD 1

1. Diamond Head - It`s Electric
2. Sweet Savage - Eye Of The Storm
3. Saxon - Motorcycle Man
4. White Spirit - Cheetah
5. Raven - Don`t Need Your Money
6. Paralax - White Lightning
7. Def Leppard - Getcha Rocks Off
8. Weapon - Set The Stage Alight
9. Samson - Vice Versa
10. Hollow Ground - Fight With The Devil
11. Girlschool - Demolition Man
12. Witchfynde - Leaving Nadir
13. A II Z - Treason
14. Witchfinder General - Witchfinder General
15. Black Axe - Red Lights

CD 2

1. Iron Maiden - Sanctuary
2. Jaguar - Back Street Woman
3. Tygers Of Pan Tang - Killers
4. Gaskin - I`m No Fool
5. Sledgehammer - Sledgehammer
6. Venom - Angeldust
7. Angel Witch - Extermination Day
8. Trespass - One Of These Days
9. Holocaust - Death Or Glory
10. Vardis - If I Were King
11. Blitzkrieg - Blitzkrieg
12. Diamond Head - Helpless
13. Praying Mantis - Captured City
14. Dragster - Ambitions
15. Fist - SS Giro

You`ll find it here....

I love ANGEL WITCH and DEMON. Demon's track DON'T BREAK THE CIRCLE is an absolute British classic.

Yup.

Because I chose to play the fool in a six-piece band,
First-night nerves every one-night stand.
I should be glad to be so inclined.
What a waste! What a waste!
But I don't mind.

The compilation seems to have a fair mix of heavy metal and thrash with bits of traditional doom sprinkled in.

Doom?
Thrash?

None of these labels even existed when these records were made.
British metal this stuff is , no more no less.
