Default Melvins - (A) Senile Animal

(A) Senile Animal

"The Talking Horse" - 2:41
"Blood Witch" - 2:45
"Civilized Worm" - 5:57
"A History of Drunks" - 2:20
"Rat Faced" - 2:41
"The Hawk" - 2:35
"You've Never Been Right" - 2:30
"A History of Bad Men" - 6:43
"The Mechanical Bride" - 6:26
"A Vast Filthy Prison" - 6:44

Due out around the 10th of October (though it has already leaked), this is the first all Melvins album in a while. Not since 2002 have the band released a proper album by themselves. For this album they've recruited bassist Jared Warren and a SECOND drummer, Cody Willis, both from the band Big Business.

Cody Willis was apparently added in because Dale Crover had some cool ideas about drumming and they were going about setting up some insane double drumset where they can play side by side.

The album itself is arguably the rawest thing in a long, long time. Probably the most straight forward assault since Bullhead. The music has no major experimentation, theres not much in the way of electronics or ambience, it's just huge guitar, interesting drumming and Buzz vocals.

I'll be uploading this album sometime soon so make sure you're a part of Crowquills mailout list so you can have a copy in this weeks issue.

Fuckin' A. I'm seeing them live.

That sounds very promising. I'm ready to have my eardrums ravaged at that show.

This sounds like it'll be really good. If I find a ride, which I doubt I can, I'm gonna go to that show.

Ah... that's a bitch.

I'd give you a ride, but it would cost about... 200 dollars.

I envy anyone who gets to see these bastards. I can only get my fill by looking through Youtube ...

I have to say the album is probably their most listener friendly one that I know of. More so than Houdini, I mean, you can actually make out Buzz's lyrics for a change. It's just a straight rock album this.

Favourite songs would have to be The Talking Horse and History Of Bad Men.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this album. I mean I really like it but I'm not sure yet how it compares.

I saw the Melvins on the Stoner Witch tour with The Reverend Horton Heat and was left less than impressed, sorry I don't see the appeal

It's cool, apparently they do a lot of ambience and experimental noise shit that many people just hate. But I've seen some videos of when they actually play some of their songs and it looks like it would be real awesome to have been there.

Swim, I know what you're talking about. I'm finding it hard to compare it to their other albums as well because it's no where near as strange as what they'd usually serve up. Though I definitely have no problems with the direction they've taken for this album.
