Default Machine Head - The Blackening

This could be huge. Perfect combo of thrash, industrial and DM. It's as if Slayer were trying to play like Opeth.

I think if i liked Machine Head I would like this album, but I think its the vocals. I just can't look past them to enjoy the very well written music.

I have that problem with a lot of bands, but I am able to get my head around the vocals on this album. Great stuff, especially solos on Halo.

I can usually get past bad vocals if the music is good enough, but, as i've tried to explain to my friends with no luck, they have "Butt Metal" vocals.

I figured I'd hate this album as I really do dislike Machine Head, but somehow they've managed to pull off a good album. Its a notably solid release with some really good material. Its not really Machine Head-esque.

Like some of you have noted, the vocals can be gruffy, but the death metal growl is par for the course for this type of exteme metal. On cuts like "Now I Lay Thee Down" which alternates between straight singing and screaming, vocalist Flynn comes across endearing especially late in the song, when his voice cracks on the chorus, and creates a cool as sh$t industrial effect. Most singer would have used a different take, but it works for the song.

people are calling this the best metal album of the year, and have been since it came out a month or so ago... it gets a lot of play on sirius too. i used to like these guys a lot and i guess im just being unfair but i cant imagine the album is _that_ good - is it up to par with burn my eyes, and their older stuff?
