I really love this band, but then, I'd never heard of "symphonic metal" until I heard them. So I have nothing to compare them too.

My favorite song is "Angels", but "Memories" and "The Howling" are pretty good as well.

I think whoever thinks they sound like Evanescence is on crack. Instrumentally and vocally, they are much, much better.

Ok I really, really love Within Temptation, but I have to say that they are not original at all. Their earlier work was was pretty interesting, until The Heart Of Everything came. On this album they really DO sound like Evanescence and that way lose all of their originality, although Sharon isn't half as good vocalist like Amy Lee.
But inspite of all that I still love this album, because I'm a fan of Evanescence and everything that sounds remotely like them is fine by me. I just don't think that it is good for Within Temptation, because before they were more original earlier

Well, I don't know. I'm a fan of Evanescence too, but I like Within Temptation better. I think WT was kind of searching for "their" sound, because they really had it down with Mother Earth, but that cool "folk" sound sort of faded out in The Silent Force. The lyrics on that album were less to my liking, as well. I think "The Heart of Everything" really captures what they're trying to do.

Try Epica or Nightwish, if you want more symphonic metal bands. And if you want to get into "heavier" femme metal, try After Forever (their vocalist is simply AMAZING).

I have heard their music but does not own any. I think they are good though.
