I can't argue with you. For example being a terrible lyricist....at least give me a shred of proof or example to back up your opinion...

Well I don't know about Frusciante being that bad of a songwriter, but in response to the original question, I'd have to say that 'Fortune Faded' is one of their great songs that isn't as widely known.

It was on their Greatest Hits album.

They needed to hang it up after One Hot Minute. and I only include that album because Dave navarro added some much needed freshness to their sound.

These are pretty useless:

Come to decide that the things that I tried
Were in my life just to get high on
When I sit alone come get a little known
But I need more than myself this time
Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe that we rely on
When I lay it on
Come get to play it on
All my life to sacrifice
Hey oh listen what I say oh
I got your
Hey oh now listen what I say oh

Exactly-they are getting older. The band have lived more than 9 lives each. They have outlived many bands in a genre that is, let's face it, fairly insular. It's funk/rock. Hardly original. Kick arse when it's done right but hardly the saviour of music. The added story of Frusciante and his drug problems plus his undeniable guitar playing has given the band a status that may not be deserved. They never saved rock and never intended to.

Some bands like to evolve and not do the same shit over and over again for two and a half decades.

I like how you tell him to list an example...and he does...and you say that. Anyway I don't think he's a very good lyricist either. People go on about him being "real" but being real doesn't mean shit when it isn't written very well. "Slitting my throat is all I ever had?" "Under this bridge downtown I gave my life away?" give me a break, I could open up any thirteen year olds diary and read something equally poignant.

Here's another:

Quote:
This talking picture show is leaking from a silhouette
She said my man you know it's time to get your fingers wet
Your hustle's busted when you can't afford a cigarette
The last I heard from you, you were screaming handle it

Knock the world right off its feet and straight onto its head
Book of love will long be laughing after you are dead
Fascinated by the look of you and what was said
Make a play for all the brightest minds and light will shed
Other than being very poorly expressed, gotta love the rhyming scheme there. Very creative.
