I haven't even listened to Stadium Arcadium. The singles were horrible, and i just don't want the my impression of a band i used to worship to be lessened anymore than it already is. Which is a bit sad.

I can appreciate what you are saying and their music is wholly commercial now but for me EVERY single album is hit and miss for me with some awesome tracks: Backwoods, Johnny Kick A Hole In The Sky, The Brother's Cup, No Chump Love Sucker, Funky monks, Aeroplane, The Zephyr Song and some pap: Throw Away Your Television, Universally Speaking, Magic Johnson etc Stadium Arcadium for me represents their most cohesive work but I know I am probably in a minority on this album. My favourite track is actually Show Me Your Soul. I adore that track.

I can't really comment properly becauce i haven't listened to an album of theirs in years. Overall i'd agree though. Their strongest would be BSSM, the title track i still like.

i'm pretty much in the same boat. californication was the last disc i bought and it disappointed me. i haven't heard anything since that really made me want to get back into them.

freaky styley will always be my disc of choice when it comes to the chili peppers.

Some of the tracks on Freaky Styley are brilliant but i feel that it is let down a little by it's production which is slightly flat. A surprise considering George Clinton produced.

They were not one of his main bands at that time, so i dont think he put as much into it as on later records. I forget the major bands he ha produced at that time.

Could have been a lot worse, considering the whole sh*t in a pizza box story with Andy Gill.

I'd say RHCP have evolved like so.

Good funk rock band (83/87) to great funk rock band (89/91) with one of the best albums of the 90s to good alternative metal band (95) to great pop band (99) to good pop band (02) to dried up going to crap pop band (06-present).

I quite like Throw Away Your Television... funky bassline, cool drumbeat and a weird as hell solo.

I'm a bit ambivalent towards Magic Johnson. The song itself is pretty rubbishy but I love the riff which comes in at about 2:15... it has such a nice fruity sound.

Even their worst songs tend to have a great guitar riff or bassline in there.
