Honestly, I must say, you could remove the 3 highest strings on their bassist's bass and he could still play the basslines.
And him slapping it makes it no more interesting to me. Just makes the bass more prominent in the wrongest way. The right way would be making more creative bass lines.

I can tell that you are a bass fan, And I can relate to you VOS, (The talent used by some of todays mainstream music). 4-strings today, with most modern styles, are mostly obsolete for correct basslines, etc. Bass scales are mainly the opposite of guitar scales. You shouldnt play a bass like a guitar in other words. (only my opinion)
