Default My son listens to disturbed

Okay, my son listens to Disturbed, Trapt, System of a Down, and Linkin Park.

I, personally, can't stand Disturbed, the vast majority of Trapt, and Linkin Park's new album is probably one of the worst things I've ever heard. SOAD is alright.

How can I make my son stop listening to these bands? Especially Disturbed.

I can't kill him, so I think I need to find something to replace those bands. Something extraordinarily better. I don't know how far I'll get him away from this "pop" radio music style, but I'd like to try. Also, no heavy metal.

It's really annoying to talk to him about music, I really need some help. He's in seventh grade and it's pretty vital to him that the music is "cool" and not "emo".

There's gotta be soemthing out there, right?

Thanks if you try to help.

Listening to crap music that your parents hate at that age is a part of growing up.

You think I wanted to spend time listening to my dads records at that age?

Let his tastes evolve naturally.

Excellent . First tell us how old you are and then we'll get on with the recommendations.

to Urban Hatemonger, I guess I mainly want to find something we can both listen to since we spend a bit of time together.

and to chiron, well the music recommendations are mostly for my son, in the long run, I don't mind listening to his music, but it would be nice to find something better. I'm 34 though.

Try telling him something about the background of the music you listen to.
The history of the band members, stuff he can relate to.
Anything that will get him indirectly interested in the music.

though I wouldn't mind him wanting to listen to my music, I'm mainly trying to find him music in his taste. (which I guess in someway is listening to my music, since I'm sort of forcing my preference into it)

Deftones/A Perfect Circle/Faith No More are possible options.

If I allowed my mother to influence my musical tastes while I was young, I would be listening to Cinderella and Ratt nowadays. Ugh.

Try Smashing Pumpkins or Helmet.

I'd introduce him to the oldies, like Sabbath and Zep.
