Ugh. That actually is a really hard decision.
I agree with you on the guitar licks, but I find Kirk Hammett to be a much more talented guitarist than Mustaine. And some of the stuff Mustaine writes is a little weird, like he's trying to break conventions without any direction. Also, Megadeth never really had an apocalyptic album like Metallica has had (Ride the Lightning and the Black Album). It really is a toss up. I say Metallica because Dave Mustaine is a Flyers fan. =p |

I prefer Metallica's work after Kill Em All. The Black Album, Master of Puppets, and Ride the Lightning are my favorite albums

Metallica. They created the path that most heavy bands follow today. Megadeth is good too, but just not as creative in my opinion. People criticize Metallica for changing their sound over the years, but that's what all artists do. In fact, since most credit Megadeth for staying true to form, they would have to come second to Slayer in that regard as well. The last few Megadeth records have been sub-par as well. Go figure. From the short clips I've heard of the new Metallica record, it will bring them back somewhat closer to the original sound, perhaps around '89-'91. Just my two cents.

I really don't get all The Black Album hate, is it really that big of a deal? They made a more stripped down and simple hard rock record, and it's a good simple hard rock record, who cares if it's not old Metallica? Sure everything after it was bad, but I hate it when people call an album bad based on personal reasons and "what it started" rather than the actual damn music.
AC/DC are criticized for sticking to a formula, everyone else gets harshly criticized for changing it. ![]() |
