I think in some of their early music, it is the other way around. It is Metallica's "Dave Mustaine" roots coming through some of their riffs. I cant name the songs right now, but im sure someone would agree with me.

BTW, i think Megadeth is better. Metallica is really repetetive and Megadeth actually plays in keys besides E. IMO, Dave Mustaine is more of an economical player than both Kirk and James, who both just downpick 90% of the time. There are even rumors that metallica has played "Battery" live using only downpicks. Very impressive, I know, but not very economical.

I go with 80's Metallica too. Old Metallica is definitely better.
New? Hmmm. Don't think so...

I don't even think that's humanly possible.

Drugs are for the weak.

Metallica, since they produced an album that is actually worthy of listening to all the way through.

i think metallica have more songs and have dated better
but rust in peace kicks their ass though
and symphony of destruction is almost a pop album
and does it a bit better than the black album methinks.

I grew up with Megadeth and I still can't cede preference to them. I've grown to hate Mustaine's vocal delivery. If you're gonna compare the two, compare their best albums. Rust in Peace and Peace Sells were their apex, but they still don't compare favorably to the good Metallica years (basically the eighties).

The Black Album wasn't a complete sellout but it was damn close, and earlier material definitely dates much better. Ride the Lightning surpasses any of Megadeth's works. I am aware of Mustaine's limited involvement in its production, but Master of Puppets pretty much shits all over Megadeth's entire discography as well.

Overall, I'd say that Megadeth has been fairly consistent (whereas Metallica's sound has changed radically). But the constant lineup changes, the ****ty later albums (post-Youthanasia) - these things really make me question the validity of Megadeth's career. I don't really mind that Dave is pretty much the biggest wanker ever, but he should never have let Marty go, and at least conceded some creative control to him.
