The Beatles didn’t have a frontman.

Ok, I didn't read this entire thread, so these have probably been named.

My personal favorites (in no order):

Phil Lynott.

I only saw Thin Lizzy once, in 1983 or 84, at the Monsters of Rock festival. Lizzy was the 3rd of 7-8 bands, and Thin Lizzy blew them all away. Lynott had the crowd in the palm of his hand from the opening note.

Bruce Dickinson.

The guy has been so good for so long. I've seen Maiden several times, and he's always been engaging, and makes you part of the show, no matter where you happen to be sitting. The only negative, (besides his failing voice,) is he over-uses the 'Scream for me' thing. He did it on nearly every song last time I saw them.

Tom Petty

Yea, I know, but he was standing out in front of a band, so I'm taking this liberty. He was cool, understated. Made you feel like he was talking to you like he was in a local band, playing in a back yard cookout. Never any sort of pretentious posing. Just 'Hope you like this next song'. The guy was ultimate cool.

Freddie Mercury.

Good Lord, if there was ever a person born to be on stage performing, it was Freddie. The exact opposite of Tom Petty, Mercury was unapologetically flamboyant, brash, overtly sexual.

Michael Jackson.

Whether it was the Jackson 5 or solo, you just couldn't take your eyes off him. He's in the 'born to be on stage' with Freddie & Elvis. A true showman.

So, there's five, 80% of them gone. 80% of them originated in the 60s or 70s, and one in 1982.

Not hard to figure out I'm in my 50s, is it?
