Universally Respected Metal Bands?

I don't even like metal but I respect Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, a few of their songs I really like despite my dislike of the genre, so I'd say them. They're just universally respected BANDS in general, those two, at least in my mind.

I can't believe there are so many people saying Iron Maiden. Personally I love Iron Maiden but I know a number of people who hate them and i've seen a fair amount of Maiden bashing on this site.

I can't agree with Priest because I personally don't like them, but there may be a case.

Black Sabbath and Motorhead may be the only two I think you could make an argument for. Obviously you can't find a band that EVERYONE likes or respects but those two are probably the two you could make the best arguments for.

I don't like Motorhead that much. They're pretty much the AC/DC of metal. You've heard one song by them, you've heard em all.

That's the whole point FFS. You have to have bands that bang out the same shit but do it well with attitude and a non commercial attitude in order for other bands to be appreciated too. By your logic you could apply that 80% of Metal and white boy guitar bands too. Oh and Soul and Reggae. It's all about the delivery and honesty.
