I posted the exact same opinion awhile back right after I first saw the Anvil documentary too. I liked their guitar dynamics & rhythm section OK, and they did have an audience in Japan. But the lead vocalist seemed to have an emotional problem in the first place, and the drummer was far from being the "sharpest knife in the kitchen" to say the least.
