I get that, but you'd think folks would want to expand a little. With services like MOG and Spotify I don't think acquiring the records is too hard. I suppose finding the time could be another issue though...

I listened to a few songs from both albums, but TBH, I just didn't care enough for either to even say which one was better. *shrug*

I enjoyed AN only slightly better than Mirrorthrone. The problem for me came with the symphonic elements themselves. They sounded very cheesy...the key to making good symphonic metal is to make the symphonic bits sound natural, not deliberately programmed. At times they even sounded like 90s midi file sounds. Perhaps a different production would have made the two albums excellent, otherwise they didn't excite me too much. Also, I think AN would have been a strong album if it were solely a black metal album. I am sure albums later in the war will quickly and decisively eliminate the winner of this round.

I have to give it to Anorexia Nervosa; Mirrorthrone, I felt, did a more competent job incorporating the non-traditional elements into their music... but I don't like non-traditional elements in my metal. Whereas AN sounded just like another blast-happy norsecore black metal band with some symphonic stuff layered over. I guess a burrito would be a great example; both burritos are packaged as different, but AN just has some goofy cheese with mushrooms in it, just one layer of weird ****, whereas Mirrorthrone has all sorts of weird **** throughout the burrito.

So Anorexia Nervosa easily win the first round 4-0. Next up they face Fleshgod Apocolypse (now that's a proper name for an extreme metal band
) who are described as an Italian death metal band with symphonic influences. Now what's really interesting about this war chosen by Metal Connoisseur is the geographic diversity of the bands, we've got France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Greece...........yes Greece! Which adds an extra dimension to the war.Anorexia Nervosa Drudenhaus 2000

Fleshgod Apocalypse were not what I was expecting. I was expecting more symphonic black metal... not death metal, and certainly not death metal of this type. The drum triggers on this album are ridiculous; completely over the top. I did like it quite a bit, however.
