Quorthon may have been a racist prick, and quite possibly even a neo-nazi, but I can't deny that the man created two of the greatest metal sounds I've ever heard.

You know, after reading an interview Quorthon did with some website back in the day, where he referred to a black guy he saw on some talk show as a "fat negro", I've been pretty sure he was at least somewhat racist. Then I'm looking up the lyrics to "Home of Once Brave", and I see this...

I just read Lords of Chaos, and now I've developed a worrying fascination with NSBM. As much as I love Cannibal Corpse, they just don't have quite the same sense of legitimate danger and wrongness as a bunch of Odinist neo-Nazis. I guess it's like porn. Once you've watched enough anal, you need to take the next step to DP. And then even that gets boring so you go to trannies. And then you are well and truly lost to the world of "normal" porn. I was hoping that this would suck so that my interest might die quickly, but alas, I quite dig Absurd so far.

P.S. On a completely unrelated note, I just shaved my head this morning.

Absurd are a great band, and I'm particularly fond of their more melodic moments. In these moments they sound positively mainstream:
