I didn't need an exemplary track to open myself up to rock / metal it was always, ALWAYS, good. Electronic music on the other hand, that was garbage, complete utter rubbish, just some lame chump with a beat box and a boom tsk boom tsk boom tsk beat plus some girly pop vocals.

Then I heard this tune (and subsequently bought my first actual piece of electronic music)

Funky beats, rock guy vocals, great visuals, raving police officers, and drops that didn't require you to look like a mental handicap dressing themselves based on a 1982 fever dream about what the future would look like. And the rest of the disc just got better and better.

The two songs that really won me over to metal both happened back in 1980. Judas Priest - Living after Midnight and Black Sabbath - Neon Knights were the songs that did it for me back in high school. I was living in Philly at the time and the radio there rocked.

This one to metal (in exactly this version):

To rock: Deep Purple - Child in Time
I like punk, but never dug it that much (at least for now). I can't recall any song that opened my way to it.

For me, one song changed everything:

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/With A Little Help From My Friends

Before that point, I only listened to Bon Jovi. When I first heard this song in The Beatles: Rock Band, it was the first time I'd ever been inspired enough to go seek out a band's other work. It was amazing the doors it opened. First to '60s Rock. Then to Experimental music and other work by them as individuals.

If that song changed everything I can only imagine what sort of reaction you had the first time you heard Helter Skelter :tramp:

That was, in fact, the first song I would openly headbang to, so there's that. :yeah:
