I have to say I've been a Led Zeppelin fan from afar but I came across something I thought was urban myth the other day but turns out it was true.

Jimmy Page kidnapped a 14 year old girl from a club using his roadie. Now years later she seems unperturbed by it but has that changed anybody's opinion of Page?

Had this happened now wouldn't the world world be screaming for him to go to jail and I wonder what die hard Zeppelin fans make of it.

I know I'm late with this story but only just discovered the rock I lived under got swept away in the floods

Not sure when the public found out about this, but apparently he kept it under wraps, as anyone with the funds to do so, and a reputation to keep, would. I think it's a rotten thing to do, and he should go to prison for it, but no it really doesn't change my opinion of him, even though this is the first time I've heard about it. He's just a great guitarist to me, I don't know what I could possibly think differently of someone who I don't know or really care about.

I look at celebrities as if they're just people I don't know. I don't pretend to know them, I don't assume they're perfect or hold them to a higher standard or any of that bull****. They're just people, and some of them, just like with the rest of us, are total pieces of ****.

Doesn't change my opinion on him in the least. May be a crummy thing to do, however, I will continue to listen to Page's work with the same level of respect as before.

It was a different era in the late Sixties and early Seventies and nearly every rock band had 14 and 15 year old groupies. This all happened before the era when everyone was universally concerned about child abuse. Back then, age of consent was often 15 years old in a few states. In a couple of Southern states, the age of consent for marriage was 12 back in the late Sixties. It's shocking but it's true.

I'm not advocating the seduction of 14 year old girls but it was a common practice in the wild and wooly days of rock and roll. Chuck Berry was busted for violating the Mann Act a federal law which forbade taking a 16 year old minor for the purpose of debauchery or prostitution. Other celebrities indicted for Mann Act violations were movie star Charlie Chaplin, architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and heavyweight boxer Jack Johnson.

Specifically on the Jimmy Page case according to Rolling Stone magazine: Lori Maddox was a part of the Los Angeles groupie scene beginning in the early 1970s. According to Maddox, Page became infatuated with her and had a roadie bring Maddox up to his suite at the L.A. Hyatt House. " He was wearing this hat over his eyes and holding a cane," she remembered. "He looked just like a gangster. It was magnificent." The pair went on to have a torrid affair over the next few years.

There was no kidnapping involved and Lori Maddox was a willing sexual partner, but Page may have violated California laws on statutory rape because the age of consent in California (at that time) was 16 years of age. Today the age of consent is 18 years old in California.

I think kidnap is a bit harsh. Okay I'm a 14 year old girl who is asked to join a rock God for whatever happens............IT's not like they threw a potato sack over her head and threw her in the trunk of his car. They probably reserved that for the 18 year old girls...

She was a well known Groupie in LA at the time. Lori Lightning was her nickname and she'd already been with David Bowie and others prior to her dalliance with Page.

"Child" might not be the right word. Neither might be kidnapping.
I find it pretty pathetic to have to rely on a big difference in experience and intelligence to get someone into bed, not matter what the age is.
I mean if a lady is of legal age it somehow isn't frowned upon at all, altough she might be just as stupid and naive as a child. It's still really crummy in my opinion.
Generally I don't care about a musician's private life. He can be a mass-murdering nazi pedophile, if the music is good, then I listen to it, although I might not want to pay for it and finance his lifestyle.
