Believe it or not, not the biggest prog metal fan.

For the same reason I have trouble getting into death metal for the cookie monster vocals and getting into black metal for high pitched growling vocals I have a hard time getting into prog metal because more often than not, the singer sounds like Dio.

That and some of these bands try too hard to make the keyboards sound as cheesy as possible. Symphony X is a great example.

I am however starting to take an interest in power metal, its so ****ing cheesy, but it has an appeal.

That is very true, but when a band does it right, it works Very well.

edit: and yes Symphony X is absurd.

I mean even by the standards of prog metal, Symphony X keyboards sound REALLY cheesy.

And yeah, this is just hilarious.

Wow thats the first time i have seen that video.

How in the **** can anyone say they take pride in liking that band. Even if the music wasn't cheesy and didn't suck complete ass, how could you like a band with that kind of image....

I like a few of their songs for guilty pleasure purposes. I just can't imagine anyone taking them seriously. When it comes to the cheesiest music ever, Symphony X is way up there at the top.

And you gotta love that one guy in the video, headbanging and rocking out in the fiery pits of hell with his Yamaha keyboard. \m/

The singer does it for me. And i use the term singer very loosely.

Theres just something about that kind of metal i cant stand. Imo self proclaimed metal heads are the worst type of music fan. (not all) Not because of the music they chose to listen to, but if you don't agree with there taste then your not brutal or tuff enough, or you just cant take the metal like they can.

I have a few friends like this that i just simply ca not talk to about music because i am obviously to much of a pussy to enjoy it.

Good God

It's like someone visualised my own personal musical hell , as if everything I hate about music was bundled together as one band.
Never mind the fire & brimstone , having to listen to that shit forever really would be eternal torment.

Its scary when you know people who are obsessed with this kinda music and hardly listen to anything else.

And then of course you always find yourself in stupid arguments with them, like over why John Petrucci is not the best guitarist of all time.

I mean liking it is one thing, but you have a lot of tech skill junkies who think liking Dream Theater and Symphony X makes them sophisticated music scholars.
