My friend was talking about how much he hated metalcore like Attila and Asking Alexandria and took me up on some education when I told him that there's more to it than that. I dropped some Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Botch, Deadguy, Psyopus, Knut, Nostromo, Yakuza, Between the Buried and Me, Gaza, and Coalesce. He accused me of cheating because he liked all of them and they didn't fit cleanly into his stereotyped view of the genre.

I figured this would be the right thread to share that in.

To be fair, his last roommate was a huge metalcore basic bitch and I'm sure that played a big role in spoiling the genre for him. Dude couldn't even handle goddamned Converge.

So who here knows anything about the H8000 Belgian metalcore scene from the 90s? I know a bit and have dipped my toes into certain bands over the last few years, but anyone with knowledge is free to speak and educate, or at least express interest.

Arkangel is at least a connected band btw for those who don't know. They were Belgian and from the same time period, but weren't in quite the same geographical area, and so aren't technically H8000, but their sound is definitely akin.

I guess the Arkangel connection means I might like something from that scene (about which I know nothing).
