Default Wolf - 1980's NWBHM band

Has anyone heard of the band Wolf. They released an album in the 1980's called Edge of The World. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not they released any other ep's or whatnot. By far one of the most underrated metal bands that ever existed.

I listened to EotW and given how much hype with the NWOBHM they had been accorded I was very disappointed with it. I wrote a review, which you can find by checking the indices to my main journal, "The Playlist of Life", under Witches, Bitches, Maidens and Monsters: The bands of the NWOBHM. I think it's part two or three. You can also check out the rest I wrote while there if you want, from Girlschool and Angel Witch to Trespass and Saxon...

To answer your question, no, I think they disbanded after that album as they never made it big, and became another casualty of the 'wave.

Heard it some time ago and don't recall too much about it, as Trollheart has said they're another NWOBHM casualty band of which there seemed to be many.

Thanks for posting that! It was an interesting read. I also think Black Axe was a better name. I think their sound was more mainstream than alot of other NWBHM bands.

Well as I said in the article a) Black Axe is kind of a more metal name (though Wolf is good too) and b) there already was an English band called Wolf in existence, so confusion must have abounded. By and large though, I guess they may just have been one of the very many bands handled by a crappy label who didn't know much about promoting a new band (especially in a new kind of music that was rising) and only cared about hits. Unfortunately the NWOBHM era was lousy with them, and it's the reason many (not all) of the bands who did not make it failed. Take the money and run, seemed to be the idea.

I do wonder though where the idea of "a forgotten classic" came from. They didn't impress me really much at all.

Looks like there is a bootleg of some old radio appearences out there when they where still black axe. A few songs on it are not on the album, namingly: Lazerblind and Night From the Blue. Guess they didn't make the cut when the album was released.
