Default Rock & Metal

Hello!

Why rock and metal are merged together in this forum. These are so different from each other. So different sound and music.

Because metal started as a subgenre of rock and a lot of metal is still very closely related to rock.

A lot of rock also falls in metal, and vice-versa.

Prime examples: Black Sabbath, Metallica, Alice in Chains, GNR, Motley Crue, etc.

Heh, interesting. Could you give some more examples? Could you exactly define a difference between a pop rock/ pop metal band? I'm new here, so sorry if this is something you have answered here.

Well, pop metal isn't an offical genre, but it's used as a slang term for glam metal, also known as hair metal. Glam metal's music was more polished than regular heavy metal, but it retained a much heavier sound than rock. Pop rock, on the other hand, is a basic blend of rock and pop, and there's nothing really more to say about that.

Pop Rock = Beatles
Pop Metal = Motley Crue. But keep in mind pop metal is a rarely used term. It's mostly either glam or hair metal.

As far as other examples of heavy metal/hard rock, Dream Theater, Motorhead, Scorpions (my favorite example), Soundgarden, Ozzy, Judas Priest, and Riot.

Although it's always subjective, there are commonly agreed on ones.

I like to think of it this way. Metal and Rock are like friends.

I don't know anyone who likes Metal, but doesn't like Rock.
On the reverse, I don't know anyone who likes Rock who wouldn't like Metal. Perhaps not all subgenres, but there is a piece of the pie they'll like. Thus no one will complain about a merged subforum as such.

This is an old discussion. Basically, this forum isn't active enough for it to matter whether or not the rock and metal sections are separate. And the people who own this site could give a **** about making any changes to it. We can't even get new emojis, so changing the entire forum is just not going to happen.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

I hate the word too. But I'm drunk, so I let it slip. Feel free to stick your finger up my butt to make me suffer.
