Default Metal Showdown (Round 8) - Metallica vs Slayer

http://www.musicbanter.com/rock-meta...metallica.html

Previously, in Round 7, Metallica edged out Nirvana 10-8. Now to bring the Showdown to full on Metal, James and the gang will be facing off with a band that's very much within their own league, and that is Slayer.

Slayer

This speaks for itself. Let's see how many votes they can tally up against Metallica.

Metallica

Can the best selling Metal band of all time reign supreme for a second round? We shall see.

My Verdict

Personally, even though I find Slayers music to be much heavier and aggressive, as well as the fact that they still release on a semi-regular basis unlike Metallica, I still have to give my vote to 'Tallica, if only for the fact that they've experimented so much more than Slayer has ever cared to do. Each album also has it's own sound and personality, even if it's St. Anger or the abomination Lulu. I can't say the same for Slayer, when most of the tracks off of Repentless sound like they were copy and pasted from any of their previous four albums.

Love Metallica, but I generally only go back to their first couple albums these days, and only Kill 'Em All with any regularity, but I throw on Reign in Blood, Hell Awaits, Show No Mercy, and parts of Seasons in the Abyss plenty.

Totally going with Slayer.

Slayer, easily. Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss are better than Metallica's best albums and nothing Slayer has released is as bad as Metallica's post-black album output.

No question: Metallica.

This sums it up very well.

I like every thing Slayer has ever released. Noticed South of Heaven wasn't mentioned. Masterpiece.

God Hates Us All is a surprisingly fantastic record, imo. Slayer easily demolishes the rest of the Big 4 and imo Metallica is the worst of the bunch.

Don't care if Slayer has become formulaic. Even though I do think they've experimented enough. I don't have any problems with bands sticking to a good formula. AC/DC Ramones Slayer all come to mind. I'm certainly not looking for Lou Reed when I put on Slayer.

Metallica's got those good first albums, but Slayer's best albums are both way better and more numerous than Metallica's.

You aren't when you're listening to Metallica either, and yet they still gave him to us.

As much as I love Slayer, it's too much of the same in their discography. With Metallica, when I put in there albums it has an ever changing personality that makes them edge out Slayer.

I think there's fair amount of variation in style over the course of Slayer's discography, especially through the 80s and 90s.
