True , but in the late 70s a lot of people thought they were a punk band.

Until they saw them

yes it is...

Judas Priest:simply heavy metal, they were part of the british new wave of heavy metal movement and are a major influence on speed/thrash metal and power metal.

Motörhead:they are by NO MEANS hair metal, they are speed metal, and basicly invented that genre...plus they were a major influence on thrash metal and thrash bands like metallica and pantera.

Bon Jovi:well they could be labeled as hair metal, but they do predate the genre by a couple of years...and some would just call them pop metal.

Van Halen:not hair metal, they have been around since the late 70s...true they did influence glam metal, but some dont even consider glam metal hair metal.

Alice Cooper:70s glam rock.

And Iron Maiden are simply metal, and they are the most innovative metal band second only to Sabbath and maybe Motorhead...They dont belong to any of its sub genre's. Especialy not hair metal, saying they are hair metal is like saying the Rolling Stones are european novelty techno.
em....bla bla bla.....it's hair metal.....

Black Sabbath has been listed among their influences...as well as led zeppelin, kiss and AC/DC...Not to mention the melvins and black flag, 2 bands with strong metal influences. And some would debate weither or not grunge is really a genre. Grunge was pretty much a description used to label every band that came out of the seatle scene and had the trademark image(Flannel shirts, old sneakers, torn up blue jeans, etc), it wasnt really a description of the music itself...When you think about it a lot of grunge bands had little or nothing in common. Im not saying grunge isn't a genre, but it was really more of a movement than a genre.

well it was a movement, but i do see some similarities between some groups....
i think nirvana was more influenced by punk and indie bands such as the pixies then metal.....i'm pretty sure they weren't influenced by iron maiden though.....
