Oh I was going to say early REM would be great for dream - like music.... anything from Murmur through to Reconstruction of the Fables... after that they got into the more straight edge rock sound...

You can't go wrong with October Rust by Type O Negative... kinda slow grooves and the vocals are nice and deep... and it's actually kinda dirty lyrically if you listen close enough.

I would just start at the beginning and work my way through... you can hear the progression of their sound that way, and it avoids disappointment at hearing something older when you like the newer...
