Are Bright Eyes still together? I though Conor Oberst had gone solo on Wichita Records, but maybe that was just a temporary thing??

I'd have a listen to Jon Allen, he's a similar sort of style...

these guys are soul, not sure about trip-hop more sort of funk, but you might like it... they're called Mama's Gun.
saw them last week at water rats in london, awesome live show.
