The Mourning Dove Gets Caught In The Killing Wires
The Mourning Dove Gets Caught In The Killing Wires
The winds rush through us all, to chill us to the bone,
And show us how long its been since we came home,
Where the sun bleeds across the land to reveal
Frost all over the ground, the streets like porcelain,
And we burn away these days on the calendar,
To pretend time will never pass, but the ashes remain,
Forever being stirred by the wind with each insignificant breeze.
So when you left south with a feather in place of goodbye,
I don't think anyone really cried, it was only a shock to the blind,
The winter skies and ever pulling tides don't leave in their prime,
But they do keep returning with time.
So all the joy that you once found in the seconds of life,
Were left to dry and the fountain eventually cracked,
Growing sick from the inside till it died, like a cold winter sky,
So from dove to blackbird, beauty to death,
You left the world before your final breath.
Spring came earlier then anyone could have thought,
And these seasons of neglect have taken their toll,
Near the base of a burning evergreen under the sun,
Everyone recited their memories, sent their prayers
Like doves into the air.
