Lay a Rose To the Soil, In Hopes the Roots Reach Down and Cradle Me.

You wilt the flowers with a sweep of your hand
And I lay in the grass waiting to be touched by you,
What a foolish boy I am stumbling to the trap you laid
And I hope to reach for you and I fell right through,
Those branches honesty and love were so well planted,
And I fell straight down and broke my arm,
Becuase I never gave a thought to how strong they were.

So I stare from my hole in the ground and watch the eye
In the clouds search the ground, and I hope you're not
Suffering the same fate being buried alive by the sunlight,
Like the roots of a rose, that is dying all alone as the birds
Sing songs and its like they know theres no purpose to the words,
For they just get caught by the wind and fade when they hit the coast,
To die on the waves.

And I laid there and watched autumn give away to winter and the snow
It fell and I called out to the blizzard that threatened to bury me,
I told that I hoped to live to see the spring, so when the snow gave way,
And melted to water I drowned and looked up and saw a final sight
Of graves in the sky, all in rows like days crossed out upon a calendar,
You can always see it but never get it back as it fades from memory
With the turn of a page so when you see me down here
Lay a flower on my grave, so I can be pretty enough for you if only for a day.
