Default copywrite/ intellectual property

Just would like to hear some brief understandings of protecting your song or words to a song. I've read things before such as you don't have to do anything really according to modern legalities on it.

First piece of information is it's "copyright" not "copywrite".

Sort of. It's just called copy. But a copywriter is the person who writes it.

If you are really serious about songwriting, you should register with a PRO (Performance Royalties Organization), such as BMI or ASCAP. After registering your music and lyrics, you will be entitled to collect a fee (if you so desire) from any commercial agency using a recording or reproduction of your music.

Now just affix "SEO" to copywriter and you have a miserable soul crushing job you apply for on craigslist that pays close to nothing.

No problem. It's the easiest resource for artists to protect their music. I'm with BMI but ASCAP is equally good.
