"Dead Leaves"


Condensation on the window pane
Will freeze sooner than
We intended it to
Smiling softly
We will carry on
Down past the bend in the road
Where the leaves used to fall
But now lie dead
In the cold bleached grass
Sweeping along our lakeside path
If only for a while
We'll see those leaves
Only to remember that they were once part of
Something much bigger
Than their frightful descent
Departing with glistening streams of light
Glowing in the sunscape
Blowing in the flat open land
Not quite touching the ground
But leaving trails of sparks that
Shimmer constantly
Maintaining their length and influence as we
Pass on the road nearby
