Default Sly & The Family Stone

So who else likes 'em. For those of you who are musically ignorant, they are a 60s soul/R&B/rock/psycedelic group. I'm obsessed with "I Want To Take You Higher" and "Thank You (Faletimme Be Mice Elf Again)"

I'm suprised no one has made a thread about them yet :/. Sly was probably one of the coolest cats out there and looks like hes fun to get high with too.

FUUUUUCK Sly Stone. I was his biggest fan, until I saw what he did to Muhammad Ali on that TV program. What a Jiggaboo. He STAYED high, to the point where you could never fully appreciate his depth, because his actions would prove how foolish he really was. Showing up at concerts 3 hours late if at all, and then only doing 3 songs after people waited all that time.

FUUUUCK Sly Stone. He never gave a crap about his fans or his musical legacy. It was just an avenue for him to stay high...and his positive messages were marketing gimmicks just to keep people supporting his habit.

I like them. My dad and I like to listen to them and sing along with the songs, while my mom screams for us to stop (one, because she doesn't like them, and two, because we're tone deaf). It's great fun.

Default Consequential and Controversial

Sly Stone is one of the most important artists of the last 40 years. He is also one of the most controversial ones. I write about this and more in my book - Sly: The Lives of Sylvester Stewart and Sly Stone. Check it out at Lulu.com - content ID #1412956.

I really like Everyday People, but other than that, he's alright.

Larry Graham is one funky dude. He was one of first, if not the first bassist to use the "Slap and Pop" technique. "Thank You" is a classic.

They supported Hendrix the nights he recorded his Band Of Gypsy's album.

I have the tapes of both night & I think it's fair to say they blew him offstage.
