Funkadelic And Parliament (2 seperate bands that then later joined under George Clinton) in my opinion are truly some of the best funketeers around if you ask me. Their music is incredible

I've never really listened to Soul and Funk, but I'm interested in both genres.
Where does one start with Funk and where does one start with Soul?
What are the important sub genres of soul?
I'm mostly interested in Funk.

(Yup, I've just asked almost the same question in the jazz and blues forums, I kind of want to discover some new music.)

I'd like more funk recs please. I've been looking, but haven't found much that's really interesting. For those of you who have an idea of what my music taste is like, or what you consider mind-blowing I'd like to hear it. I prefer something experimental with a strong funk swing. I'm familiar with the well known artists like James Brown, Parliament, Funkadelic, Sly & the Family Stone, The Meters, etc.

I'm not really familiar with what type and style of funk you guys actually like, but I will recommend that you check out the band Zapp. And Zapp featuring Roger Troutman. Zapp was formed in Hamilton Ohio in 1977. They were highly influential to the electro sub genre of funk.

Check them out on YouTube, I think you guys might like them.

I swear I've heard More Bounce to the Ounce featured in some hip-hop song. Was it Biggie? Anyway, they're ok from what I've heard so far.

This was my go to for a long long time. They also have ones from different parts of the US.
