His stuff is hit or miss as far as the musicianship, but lyrical lines like "ridin' down the road, carryin' a load, feelin' more sexy than a pregnant toad" definitely tickle my musical funnybone!

That Funky single is from later in their career.
As fine as it is, you're better off starting with
The Time Has Come or just grab up any of the hits
collections that have the full 11-minute version
of Time Has Come Today. Listen to the drums.
Thanks Rosie, post is quite informative compared to the ones that just post youtube videos with nothing to say.

Hey guys, I need some fresh music. I recently fell in love with Funkadelic, especially their first 3 records and I'm in need of something similar. Something that has those strong, echoey beats, that loud squelching guitar and the psychedelic nastiness that they're famous for. Some of my favourite tracks include "I Wanna know if it's good to you"( Fuzzy rocks the vocals and Bernie kills keys), "Super Stupid", "Good Ole Music","I'll Bet You", "Wars of Armageddon"(one if Tiki's greatest works, imo) and "Friday Night August the 14th".

The closest I've gotten to finding a match to this sound is with Hendrix's albums "Are you Experienced" and "Band of Gypseys", and The isley's "Go for your Guns". One other album I took to is the 1977 self-titled album "Shotgun", BUT sadly I haven't been able to find a download for it. Recommendations don't have to be limited to funk bands, just something that has the heat and the heaviness that those Funkadelic records have.

These albums have some of what you're looking for in varying degrees...

Chairmen of the Board - Skin I'm In (1974)

Fishbone - Truth and Soul (1988)

Chico Magnetic Band - Chico Magnetic Band (1971)
