Default Backbeat (1994)-Various Artists.

The film BACKBEAT charts The Beatles early years tearing up Hamburg clubs with hi-energy Rock N Roll.

The soundtrack was performed by THE BACKBEAT BAND which consisted of:

DAVE GROHL (FOO FIGHTERS)
THURSTON MOORE (SONIC YOUTH)
DON FLEMING (GUMBALL)
DAVE PIRNER (SOUL ASYLUM)
GREG DULLI (AFGHAN WINGS)
MIKE MILLS (R.E.M)

It's a great album with high energy Rock n Roll standards such as LONG TALL SALLY and TWIST N SHOUT. PM is your friend!

I'm not much attracted to cover bands pretending to be other bands, but I thought I'd do Jackhammer the courtesy of checking out his recommendation, and what I discovered on Amazon was a very short cd of passable covers. To judge from the movie clips, the songs are short too, so here's a couple:-

.....

Bottom line: I'd happily watch the Backbeat movie, but would never be bothered to listen to the soundtrack cd.

Actually, I thought Backbeat was a little strange (sorry I'm bumping again, but I've been gone for four months ). Even stranger was the TV movie, the Birth of the Beatles by Dick Clark Productions (yes, start groaning). Apparently the only song in the Beatles' repertoire was Dizzy Miss Lizzie. Yeah, that movie was a classic- Not!

I would. I saw the movie a few times, but didn't now there was a sound track. I have roughly two dozen Beatle cover song compilations, tributes, and reinterpretations on CD and I am always game to hear how another band approaches a Beatle song. I will be checking out this album.

Always liked this album.

If you like the Backbeat soundtrack, it's worth searching Youtube for Backbeat band. They did a one-off 7min performance at MTV awards 1994.

I'd link it myself, but I have a few more posts to make before being able to do so...
