The French used to cut off these fingers of the English archers if they ever caught them alive so to stop them using a longbow again.
It's a taunt.

sorry, i was rackin my brain but i can't think of that battle.....well we beat the turks asses on many occasions so....
and 1-1......awsome.....we could have won if balaban knew how to play football.....

It seems Hrvatska were better than you thought, which is more than can be said of England's pitiful efforts.
I not being biased when I say Rooney was the only player who looked like he had any passion for last nights game.
And why play Owen at all when he is not eligable for the game against Wales in the World Cup qualifier? Far better to play his replacement (whoever that is) so he can settle into the team for that game.
As for Sven Ive never liked him since the Brazil game. When England needed inspiration he just stood on the sideline looking confused and scratching his ****ing head.
See now I'm ranting and I have'nt even started on about David James yet!!!
God help England in the World Cup this summer...if they qualify.
