Me, I'm a guitar player primarily, although I can play bass, West African-style percussion, and some basic drums. Been playing guitar 15 years now and am completely self-taught--I still can't read music, and rely on my ear and basic knowledge of music theory and structure. I'm not the fastest player, but I think I'm pretty good. Been playing reggae professionally for almost 12 years now too, and I've been blessed with playing with excellent bands, and having played with or for some of the heavies of that genre.

I pretty much play Fenders, although I'll get a Gibson or Epiphone sometime this year. So far, I have:

--a 1990 Fender Concord II acoustic
--a 1996 Estrada nylon-string I bought in Mexico...groovy little guitar.
--a 2001 Fender Standard Strat, modded with extra switching.
--a 2002 Fender Fat Strat, with new pickups and extra switching.
--a 2005 Fender 1960's reissue Telecaster

Amplification is through a Fender Ultimate Chorus combo amp, at 65 watts/channel (solid state amp, but very warm sounding) with footswitch. Pedals are (in order of signal chain):

Danelectro 7-band EQ
Boss Blues Driver
Dunlop Crybaby wah
Seymour Duncan decibel booster
DOD Stereo Chorus
Digitech Whammy II

This year, I'm hoping to get one of the Epiphone Bob Marley guitars, or if I'm really lucky, a Fender Jazz Bass.
Man, I'm sure happy to be getting good responses about music in here!!! Normally when I talk about music in the "non-musician"/instrument threads, people don't seem to know what I'm talking about and get upset with my opinion(s)!!!
Glad to talk to good musicians...
...see ya later, cheers!!!

Hey, why can't we choose more than one?!

I started playing piano, moved on to the saxophone, started with guitar, bass, and I'm about to start drums. This was some 15 years ago...

The reason simply is that you vote for the one you "focus on" or play the most!!!

Remember, before I told everyone that my main "passion" was drumming, so I chose the drums!!!And, at the same time, I've also played leadguitar alot!!!

Hope all is clear now, peace!!!

The instruments:
-Dean Performer acoustic electric with a cutaway.
-Washburn D13S acoustic dreadnaught, solid spruce top with ashwood body.
-LTD Viper-200FM
-Squire P-Bass with Bassline quarter pounders, upgrading the tuners and bridge soon.

Bass I run through a Fender Rumble 100, for guitar I plan on getting a Line 6 212 /w switchboard, but for now I'm just playing direct-line into my computer and amp modeling using Garage Band.

Instruments

-Guild six string acoustic
-Squier "fat strat" (H-H)
-Ibanez RGRT 47 DX (H-S-H, floyd rose, neck through)
-Ibanez Blazer Series (S-S-S, late 70's model)

and once i make another 400 bucks...
-Custom Gibson Explorer (all black, probably from the 80's)

I use the RGRT 47 DX for the metal/metalcore-ish band Im in. The Blazer for the ska band that im trying to get off the ground.

i dont use the squier anymore because it has a horrible fret buzz. and as soon as i get the explorer, it will become my main guitar for the metal band.

the guild is actually my mothers...but i use it more than she does. just for practicing so far, no acoustic groups yet.

Yeah, I'd also agree that squiers are terrible guitars!!!I had a squier and many things went wrong with it..........I can't even remember what I did with it and I don't care much at all either, ya know?
Good choice there on a "metal" guitar, though!!!I'd probally say that just about any Gibson would be good for metal, but your gibson choice is probally one of the more common "metal" guitars. Here are a few others I'd recommend for metal or anything else:

1.S.G.'s-My absolute favorite guitar, by the way!!!It just sounds so damn good!!!
2.ES335's-Great body and soul comes through this, but I have also played some great (metal) leads on this one.Another great!!!
3.Explorer's-As you said you wanted to get, this guitar will be good for some cool metal riffs.I know you'd be satisfied with it's sound, that's for sure!!!
4.Flying V's.-This guitar is great for electrifying leads and rockin' riffs!!!Not what I'd prefer, but still a great guitar for metal!!!

I wanted to know what the total was for that Explorer and what condition it's in by the way...
...Is it only $400 or was it something like $750 and you needed $400 to "pay it off"?Talk to ya later and have fun, man!!!

its 800 total i believe. but its used and im buying it from a pawn shop. thats why its so cheap. it may need some work...but 800 is a steal for a gibson explorer.

I agree on Squiers...I had a Strat from them about 12 years ago, and it all but fell apart on me. I've heard that their quality has gone up in recent years, but I'll never trust a Squier product again.
