2nd stage guitar (electronic, blues, jazz, metal, rock)

I have been playing guitar for a while, im still not great, but i am joining a new band and i need a new axe

i have used a Fender Affinity Strat (squire) and i absolutely love it, however it is only a $150 guitar, and i am going to need something better (i am told)

anyway, i have considered a variety of things, but if you have any other ideas, please tell me!!!

if you dont want something too expensive here are some options

Fender: FatStrat, a standard Strat with humbuckers in the back to thicken tone, or just get a Strat

Schecter: Hellcat, Omen 6, C-1 of some sorts.

Epiphone: Flying V, or one of their 1,000,000,000s of Les Pauls.

there are more brands like Ibanez and others but those are ones i know of that are pretty good.

if you're going to be in a metal-y band stay away from Strats.

can't go wrong with a gibson, pretty damn pricey though. same with paul reed smiths. but if you like the strat, you could always just get some different electronics for it, throw in a seymour duncan pickup or something and let er rip, for around $100. thats what i did with my epiphone les paul studio, took out the stock pickup and put in a seymour duncan custom pickup. and its my main stage guitar to this day. its not quite the same as a higher quality instrument, but itll give you a better sound than those sludgy squier pickups.

I have a Schecter C-1; That was also my upgrade guitar, from a squier strat, like you. However, I'd simply go up to your local Guitar Center or other large guitar store, and just try everything out. Don't limit yourself to guitars made for your chosen style of music. Try out a few guitars that you normally wouldn't think about getting. Billy Gibbons plays blues-rock, and he uses a
Dean, a popular brand for metal guitarists. I'd reccomend something versatile, though. I'd go with something like an Ibanez, Schecter, PRS, ESP, etc. Don't go on how it looks or sounds alone, pay a lot of attention to playability. You can get just about any sound with the right pedals. I have one guitar, a Marshall, a distortion pedal, and a phaser, and I can go from Metal to Blues to Jazz. Most importantly, though, it's all about what you like. It's your guitar, anyway.

id either go with an LTD or an ibanez.

both sell cheaper models (300 - 600) that play insanely well. check those two links and tell me what you think.

well..i like the LTDs the best, but cant figure out which one (under $400) would be best for me

M200FM would probably be your best bet. i almost bought it. it plays really well, its got a few bells a whistles (floyd rose, active EMG's, coil tap) and it runs about 400-425 bucks.

you can buy my epiphone les paul studio (i think its a studio) off me for £200, it didn't meet the reserve on ebay so its yours for that price if you want it (price is non-negotionable, i need cash)
