It is the most important for the majority of Disco bands, and while Prog makes use of many instruments, keyboards play a very important part in it, same goes for Funk, where the keyboards compliment the bass & drums to make a groove that is just right.

Yeah, I know it's not the 70s anymore, just saying.

I say drums are more important as it gives the beat to the rest. But each instrument or vocalist is equally important to make i a complete band-so AMOF, you cnt say which is important

The drums are most important in a band, in them lie most of the rhythm and tempo that determine the groundwork for a piece of music.

In most rock bands, vocals are the center of attention, but I still stand to say drums come before, by building a basis for the vocals to tread on.

Although drums aren't used in every genre as a means of keeping a beat, I'd say it's true for the majority of music.

As important as the guitar and bass are in a rock band you can't really be considered hard rock and roll without a drummer. However, there are plenty of good musicians and guitarists out there who only need themselves, Bob Dylan in his early days is a prime example.

No instruments are necessary for any band. I would say guitar is the most important, but only for the music I listen to. I can't think of a single song without guitar from any of the bands I like, but I can think of plenty without other instrumernts (acoustic stuff). I'm not downplaying the importance of drums, though, because I don't think I could just listen to acoustic music.

No instrument can be the most important, seeing as every instrument you add to a piece of music makes it just as important as the rest.
