the notes are easy.
E A D G are the open strings. go up half a step for each fret so the E string would be E(open),F,F#/Gb,G, G#/Ab,A,A#/Bb, B and so on bass doesnt really have chords its usually one note at a time. for tabs www.bass-masta.com and www.ultimate-guitar.com are good places to go.

You can play chords on bass, but it's a well known fact that chords in most part suck ass on bass... Especially when you just strum all strings at once, it sounds like crap, even picking two at once has a very dull, flat sound... So it is best recomended to play one string at a time.
