Beginner - Pyscho Killer by the Talking Heads on acoustic. Simple and effective...it was my first tune.

But I think everyone DOES know Smoke On The Water, but obviously you don't HAVE to know it just most people do.
All they usually know is the first riff and by the way it is on distorted hammond organ not guitar.

For electric guitar:

The "whole lotta love" riff is good value.

Sabbath's "Paranoid" is classic.

ACDC "back in black" is also tasty.

Master of puppets is great but to play it right is pretty tricky.

Eventually every guitarist should build up a list of theme tunes to fill the boredom gap,

my list,

pink panther, the flinstones, star wars, tetris, the muppets, 007, mission imposible, lord of the rings....etc. as you can see i tend to get bored quite easily
and it's always fun to learn these if you happen to have an incredibly short attention span.

10+ Songs that are either good, easy or both:

1. "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Eric Clapton.

2. "Paranoid" by Tony Iommi.

3. The whole Nevermind album by Kurt Cobain.

4. "Enter Sandman" by James Hetfield.

5. "Iron Man" by Tony Iommi.

6. "Crazy Train" by Randy Rhoads.

7. "Thunder Kiss 65" by White Zombie.

8. "Back In Black" by Angus Young.

9. "Hell's Bells" by Angus Young.

10. "Riff Raff" by Angus Young.

All of the above songs were fun to learn when I was developing my guitar skills. Some are more easier than others, so try to perfect every one with time.Good luck to yall.

Yup I totally agree, when I started that was probably the 3rd song I learned...next to Pens and Needles by Hawthorne Heights

Great list.
No Zeppelin though.
How about "Whole lotta love"?

High satisfaction rating on that one.
