haha. the best bassists in my opinion are geddy lee, mark king, vic wooten and John Myung who isnt THAT great but he plays in Dream Theater so he automatically wins.

Oh, yeah....let's not forget Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy). He was a great frontman, songwriter, lyricist and his bass playing was very tasty. I dig the chorus effect he frequently used.

My Girl by the Temptations. Ask anyone how that song goes and the chances are they'll 'der' the bass line intro instead of singing the opening lyrics.
On a note of interest Geddy Lee is a great admirer of Jamerson.
I'll even argue that he's the most influential bass player ever.
