Cool Bass Thread

Any/all bass conversations welcome.

I've been playing bass for a little over a year now. I play all the time, and its a lot of fun. I just bought a Mexican Fender Jazz for 200 bucks, and its in great shape.

I used to use, and still have, a black short scale Gretsch. I like it a lot, especially the short scale factor, however my new fender just sounds a lot better.

My name is Bryan, and I'm a bassaholic.

My brother Mikey started a band, and right now it's just him on guitar, his friend Nathan on vocals and Ryan on drums. They need a bass player and since I play bass I told Mikey to at least let me try out for them.

So I have been practicing some more, I'm not really that great, but they're music is mostly just weird noise and f*cking around anyway, it's not like they need Ron Carter or somebody like that.

If that dosen't work out and it probably wont, I'm planning on making ads for guitarists, drummers, singers, keyboardists and whatever to join the worlds next greatest prog band.

Heres a really really simple but fun bassline I came up with.

G|--------------------------------------------------|
D|--------------------------------------------------|
A|--------------------------------------------------|
E|8-8\3-3-3/8-8-8-10-11-3-3\1-1-1/3-3-3\1-1-1-3-4-3|

What are they called? Based on your description I like them already. Do they have any recorded stuff online?

Not online. They're called The Plagues, which I admit is a generic name, they will probably change it.

Their music is primarly hardcore/noise rock... It's not really my music, but I would still love to play with them.

I play an Ibanez Silver Series bass - it's beautiful. If I get many scholarships next year, they'll be going towards a 5 string.

Currently learning: Rush - Red Barchetta (an awesome bassline)

Didn't i already make this thread? I'm Jake, the bass man! been playing just over 2 years now, still in the vicinity of playing stuff like victor wooten, rush etc.

S'all fun, usually though i just like to write my own bass lines, get the funk out a little.
