Reading tablature for guitar is surprisingly easy, though it's no substitute for reading music, it is all you need providing you know how the tune goes.
How To Read Guitar Tab - A Detailed Explanation of How to Read Guitar Chords A note for the 0's...it doesn't say it here, but a 0 indicates an open string. ie; not to be fretted but still requires strumming.

e ----
b ---- g ---- d ---- a ---- E ---- these are your 6 strings, tab is constructed by using 6 lines to represent 6 strings. your thick string being the bottom E and your thin string being the top e. adding numbers in on particular strings dictates as to what fret your finger should be on. E.g e ---------------------5-8 b -----------------5-8 g -------------5-7 d ---------5-7 a -----5-7 E -5-8---- There's an A minor pentatonic scale, follow it across and play it in that way, begin on the 5th fret of the bottom E, play the note, then the seventh and then onto the A string and so on symbols like this, /, h, s, etc. can mean differnet things. / and s mean slide, which means simply to slide your finger up the fret board from the note behind the symbol to the note after it e.g 5--/--7--- p means pull off which means to pluck a note and then release that note onto a corrosponding note without plucking a second time. h means hammer on which is to do the reverse, to pluck one note and then to 'hammer on' a second note further up the fret board without plucking it. and there are many more but that should do.

Everyone seems to think it's an easy instrument, and as an 8 year guitarist and a 3 year bassist I can honestly say i found guitar to be easier as you progress than bass. There's so many techniques that require far more co-ordination with the bass just depending on what your playing.
