Have to disagree. These are simple morality tales. Tony, Delia's murderer and the narrator of Cocaine Blues, kill out of jealousy and drug-fuelled rage. They know that they have done wrong. Tony's guilty conscience supplies
"the patter of Delia's feet" in his jail cell. The narrator of Folsom Prison Blues says "
I know I had it coming, I know I cant be free" The're the opposite of psychopaths, who see no wrong in their actions.
Because these songs
are morality tales, they always show that the murderer cannot escape the consequences of their deeds. The killer ends up in jail or on the gallows. This tradition goes back to songs such as T for Texas, Tom Dooley and Hey Joe.
