Yes, it does but the media still have a responsibility to protect their audience, especially the younger audience that is the music industry (look at the sexualisation of Rihanna in the X Factor final) and they have to keep with in strict guidelines, i.e. broadcasters through Ofcom, newspapers through the PCC etc... they also have moral responsibilities.
The general public are influenced by the media, i.e. the Bridgend suicides were thought to be triggered by the glamorisation of suicide.
