Thing is, not all of us like guitar solos. I like maybe 5-10% of guitar solos I've heard. Problem is a) They started being used for display of technical skills rather than musical purposes, b) They started being overused.

For me the lack of guitar solos is more of a reason to LIKE Nu Metal than to dislike it.
I think guitar solos add more excitement to metal music but I definitely wouldn't say Nu Metal is a terrible genre just because it doesnt have it. What I like about Nu metal is the interesting lyrical subjects and the general dark feeling of Nu metal songs. These kind of things are present in albums like Korn's debut album for example. That album basically started the genre with its mix of grunge and hip hop with metal music.
