Yeah so if you chop a tree the floating blocks will be wood. Once you collect them clicking on the three dots down the bottom of the screen brings up your inventory. In survival mode there is a craft button in the inventory screen. Clicking on that brings up various options. You can scroll down to find wooden planks which you make from the wood you collected. Then you can make a crafting table from 4 planks and it appears in your inventory. If you select it you can place it on the ground and then click on it to bring up more crafting options like storage chests, tools, food or building material.
