That's why I thought it seemed contradictory to not (at least seemingly) hold him up to the same standards as you do with Mozart.
Don't get me wrong though, I have nothing against Tchaikovsky, but "profound" or "deep" are not among the first words I would use to describe his music.

He's not the most deep guy there is,
but I love Tchaikovsky, I can't explain why.
