Mechanical Animals had the biggest sales week out of any of his releases (228,000 first week copies in the U.S.)
But yeah, I agree that Antichrist Superstar had way more impact in terms of cultural relevance, and it also had more long term sales. Mechanical Animals, despite being successful, was a big change in his image and sound. In fact, this might have been the reason his career lagged afterward. Many fans didn't like the change and probably wrote him off in their minds, even though he would return and make Holy Wood, his most consistent album.
